I’d like to think I’ll be writing more frequently this coming year, and I have too much college basketball information that gets stored in my brain to not write it down. Yes, a lot of what I write here in the newsletter will be geared toward a handicapping perspective - but really, that encompasses all parts of the sport. Be it looking at film, advanced stats, lineup trends, schedules...if there is relevant information to be had, then here is a place where I hope you can find some of it. I have kept a database of power rankings that have been generated through an admittedly very rookie-ish computer model, but I feel it checks out pretty well most of the time. For some reference, it looked like this toward the end of last season:
I’m looking forward to sharing what outputs I get from my numbers, starting as soon as this pre-season. As far as the handicapping, I have hit 53.22% over 2,000+ bets over the last 8 years (nope, not going to get you rich). The rule changes/3PT evolution has thrown me for a loop the last couple of seasons, but I’m working towards a self-correction there in my model which will be discussed at a later date. So, this isn’t a get rich quick scheme. Rather a gathering session, some of which I may be lucky enough to outsource soon enough.
As far as what you will be reading, I promise the last thing I’ll ever send it out is some inconsequential list of Top 50 players, Top 10 Freshman in Conference ____, etc etc. I know I don’t want to read that (or click through the slideshow to do so), so I hope I eventually reach an audience that doesn’t want that, either. For those of you who know me from my Georgetown-centric writing, that’s coming, too. Just not in this outlet. At times, this may end up looking more like an email I may send chatting about the sport to a friend (of which some will be featured) than something I’d try to publish on a website. At times, it’ll get really nerdy with math and once in a while, it’ll act as a coaches’ whiteboard. Anyway to start things off, this coming week will include recaps of how everyone fared on their summer tours. Thanks for stopping by. I can always be reached at nolancomar@gmail.com
